Candidates running for Monroe County's (N.Y.) executive role have been debating the county's $1 million in annual spending for take-home vehicles with the challenger calling the expenditure excessive, reports 13WHAM.
The county provides access to 62 employees for a take-home car not including sheriff's deputies. About half of them are allowed to use the vehicle for personal use. From Jan. 1 through July 31, the county spent $91,000 on maintenance and fuel for the vehicles.
Democratic county executive candidate Sandra Frankel, who is challenging Republican incumbent Cheryl Dinolfo, said the expenditure is excessive and the county should only give take-home vehicles to "essential and necessary emergency services personnel."
