On January 3, a fire started in the City of Scottsdale, Ariz., in a solid waste truck that was parked in a yard. The fire spread to adjacent trucks, resulting in the damage or destruction of 12 trucks. The initial estimated damage is more than $3 million, according to the city.
Scottsdale Fire Department's investigation revealed the blaze originated in the battery compartment of one of the trucks. The exact cause is unknown, but foul play is not suspected. A police officer who stopped at the yard early Sunday morning to refuel his patrol vehicle first noticed and reported the fire.
