A towing company that works with the City of Detroit has sued the city for violating its own rules in getting into the towing business, Detroit News reported.

The suit claims that Detroit’s newly purchased trucks don’t comply with state law because identifying information is not properly affixed to the vehicle. It further claims that Detroit’s plan to use its own trucks first before calling outside companies in rotation goes against the city’s own rules and states that the city’s towers should be on the rotation instead.

The city stated that its towing operations are lawful, and the suit has no merit, according to Detroit News.

The city recently announced it would take over most of its towing services and has purchased six new tow trucks for the purpose.
