Eight corporations are donating a total of $8 million to the City of Detroit so it can acquire new public safety vehicles, according to an announcement from the City.

Police vehicles from Chrysler, Ford, and GM, that will be paid for by donations from a number of U.S. corporations.

Eight corporations are donating a total of $8 million to the City of Detroit so it can acquire new public safety vehicles, according to an announcement from the City. This donation will cover the cost of 23 ambulances for the Detroit Detroit Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division and of 100 new patrol cars for the Detroit Police Department.

The companies donating funds include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan; Chrysler Group, LLC; Ford Motor Company; General Motors Company; Quicken Loans, Inc.; The Kresge Foundation; Penske Corporation; and Platinum Equity, LLC. FirstMerit Bank will serve as the financial partner as part of this project, according to the City.

This public safety announcement is related to Bing’s Detroit One initiative, which seeks to reduce violent gun crimes in the City by 25% by the end of 2013.
