BOWLING GREEN, KY – The city of Bowling Green, Ky., has received about $22,000 more in the last year selling its used equipment on GovDeals.com than it would have gotten by auctioning the items locally, according to Bowling Green Daily News. Bowling Green is one of 450 city, county, and state governments using the online auction service, said John Lewis, city vehicle fleet manager. Bowling Green has sold surplus equipment at regular public auctions, and is now moving many of the larger, more expensive items to the Internet. The city has sold items for more than $83,000 on GovDeals.com, Lewis said. City employees can post information on an item on the company's site, set a starting price, and a time limit, according to Tom Clark, vice president of client services for GovDeals.com.
