MISSISSAUGA, CANADA – The city of Mississauga became the first city in Canada to install 13 new wing plow cameras on winter maintenance equipment, according to www.mississauga.ca. In an effort to raise levels of operational safety and improve on safety standards, the project to install the cameras to the city's new Freightliner vehicles was lead by the Transportation and Works Department.

Engineering and Works Director Joe Pitushka expects to have the entire fleet of 28 vehicles fitted with the cameras by the end of the year.

Inside the vehicles cab, the self-heating, waterproof cameras and backup cameras are connected to a six-inch LCD monitor. The monitor is activated when the driver releases the brake and begins to operate the vehicle. When the driver shifts into reverse, the backup camera is activated. The driver can view everything in real time on the cab monitor.
