Calif. Auctions State Vehicle Surplus Online
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Department of General Services (DGS) fleet division is auctioning 50 state vehicles online. The auction will close Feb. 10.
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Department of General Services (DGS) fleet division is in the midst of its largest ever online vehicle auction. Auctioning 50 vehicles online, the auction will close Feb. 10. Participants must register with the site in order to bid on available vehicles.
This is the first wave of statewide online vehicle auctions. It is anticipated that each online auction will run in a weekly cycle and DGS plans to post new auctions weekly as vehicles become available.
In August, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger ordered state agencies to cut vehicle fleets by 15 percent. Since that time, DGS has sold 1,500 vehicles and expects to sell approximately 2,000 more this year.
The online auction format will not replace the state's existing live auctions held monthly, every second Wednesday in Davis, Calif. The next live auction is scheduled for 9 a.m., Feb. 10, at 5950 Chiles Road, Davis, CA 95618.
Vehicle models range widely from late model 1970s to early 2000 vans, pickups, midsize, and small cars. All transactions will take place online. Chevy Cavaliers, and Bio Fuel Cavaliers, Ford Trucks, Ford Focuses, Honda Civics and Chevy Astro Vans are among the many models up for auction.
