A report from the Missouri State Auditor found that the current Missouri Secretary of State Josh Hawley used a state-owned fleet vehicle and state-employed driver/security detail for campaign-related and personal trips.

The auditor’s office identified instances in which the driver/security detail drove a state fleet vehicle while on vacation and received payments from federal campaign funds during the same period. These occasions were a mix of campaign-funded trips, such as community events and other public appearances, and personal trips, all while accompanying Hawley.

Although there is no provision in state law that allows fleet users to reimburse the state for non-official use, such reimbursements by elected officials have taken place in the past.
