The City of Dayton, Ohio, will spend $1.2 million for its aging fire and medical services fleet in 2017. It will purchase at least two fire engines and a new medical transport unit.
The Kennedy Space Center is using nearly 50 GEM vehicles for security, facility maintenance, and landscaping tasks at its Visitor Complex in Cape Canaveral, Fla.
Tucson, Ariz., is considering a half-cent sales tax to help replace the 260 vehicles in its aging police fleet. The Tucson Police department estimates that around 63% of its patrol vehicles are beyond their recommended service life and up to 80% are due for replacement.
Modesto City Council (Calif.) approved $5.8 million to lease five pumper trucks and two tiller trucks at a meeting earlier this month. Replacement purchases were pushed back during the recession, and the average age of its fleet is 12 years, with the oldest vehicle 27 years old.
Scott County, Iowa's Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to purchase tire maintenance equipment. The county will purchase a new alignment machine, tire changer, and wheel balancer for its fleet of 98 vehicles.
