Pa. City Faces Fire Equipment Shortage

September 7, 2017

The City of Allentown, Pa., is facing a shortage of fire equipment as many vehicles reach the end of their life cycle, reports the Morning Call

In 2008, the city suffered a shortage of fire trucks, with many trucks out of service for repairs. To combat this problem, the city purchased five fire engines, but never approved a vehicle replacement schedule. Now, many of these apparatus are being placed out of service for repairs, with no budget to replace them.

The Morning Call found that five of the eight trucks in the city’s frontline fleet were more than 10 years old and two trucks in the reserve fleet were more than 20 years old.
