Officials at the City of Mount Vernon, N.Y., have increased security measures after vandals temporarily disabled the city’s public works trucks, including snow and salting trucks, on Feb. 12, NBC New York reported.

The city has hired a security guard and installed security cameras, and employees are on heightened alert.

City employees found gloves and pieces of latex in the gas tanks of 16 garbage trucks and 13 snow plows. There was no permanent damage to the vehicles, but the vandalism caused a delay in snow removal efforts that day.

Police are investigating the incident, according to NBC New York.
