Among the most recent vehicles and equipment recalled are (from left) Doosan portable generator trailers, Freightliner 114SD trucks, and Ford Maverick pickup trucks.

A slew of vehicles and equipment popular among public sector fleets have been recalled by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration in the last month. Government Fleet has a roundup of those recalls, so you can see if your fleet is affected.

Various Emergency Vehicle Makes and Models: Overloaded Electrical System May Cause Fire

More recalls have been issued by the manufacturers of several emergency vehicle makes and models.

The recalls are a result of concerns that in the event of a short circuit or wiring failure, the firmware in the node may fail to shut off the output pin, resulting in overloaded electrical circuits. When this happens, the electrical circuits can overheat, increasing the risk of fire.

The vehicles recalled are equipped with a Weldon 8x16 Input-Output node. 

The latest makes and models to be recalled include:

  • Hi-Tech E.V.S. 2020-2023 Gladiator and Metrostar fire trucks
  • REV 2019-2024 Type I, Type III, and Type IX Ambulances
  • Spencer 2024 Pumper trucks

Weldon will update the firmware, free of charge. Owner notification letters for some makes and models have already gone out, while others are expected to be mailed in May 2024.

Chrysler Vans: Unintended Deactivation of Traction Control

Chrysler is recalling certain 2024 Pacifica and Voyager vans. The traction control system (TCS) does not function when cruise control is activated. The recall includes an estimated 26,776 vehicles.

Dealers will update the TCS software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 11, 2024.

Daimler Trucks: Tire Damage from Cracked Wheel Flange

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling over 29,000 2023-2024 Freightliner 108SD, 114SD, Business Class M2, Cascadia, 2024 Western Star 57X, and 2023 Freightliner 122SD trucks. The steer axle wheel flanges may crack and cause damage to the tires.

The remedy is currently under development. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 2, 2024

Daimler Vans: Improperly Secured 12V Ground Connection

Daimler Vans is recalling certain 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans. A 12V ground connection may not be secured properly, which can result in the ground connection overheating and a loss of drive power.

The recall includes 2023 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500, and 4500 vans.

Dealers will inspect and repair the 12V ground connection, as necessary free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 3, 2024.

Doosan Generators: Brake Harness Connected Incorrectly

Doosan is recalling certain 2015-2023 Portable Generator Trailers. The electric brake harness was connected to the battery disconnect switch instead of the positive distribution lug of the battery, deenergizing the brakes when the battery disconnect switch is in the off position.

Deenergized brakes will not engage, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners will be instructed to immediately stop towing the affected trailers until repairs have been made. Dealers will correct the wiring, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 3, 2024. 

Ford Vans: Tire Damage from Contact with Wheel Arch Liner

Ford is recalling certain 2023-2024 Transit vans equipped with the Transit Trail package. The tires may contact the front wheel arch liner and body flange, causing damage to the tires. The recall impacts an estimated 1,902 vehicles.

Dealers will replace the tires, tire placard, and certification label, and also recalibrate the vehicle, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters explaining the safety risk were expected to be mailed April 4, 2024. A second notice will be sent once remedy parts become available. 

Ford SUVs and Trucks: Cracked Fuel Injector May Leak and Cause a Fire, Loss of Drive Power from Undetected Low Battery, & Tires Manufactured Incorrectly

Ford is recalling more than 42,000 2022-2023 Bronco Sport and 2022 Escape vehicles equipped with 1.5L engines. A fuel injector may crack and leak fuel inside the engine compartment.

Dealers will update the engine control software to include fuel injector leak detection and install a drain tube, free of charge. Owner notification letters for this recall were expected to be mailed in April 2024.

Additionally, Ford is recalling certain 2021-2024 Bronco Sport SUVs and 2022-2023 Maverick pickup trucks. The body and power train control modules may fail to detect a change in the 12V battery state of charge. The recall includes more than 456,000 vehicles.

Dealers will recalibrate the body control module and power train control module, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 13, 2024.

Ford is also recalling certain 2023 Maverick pickup trucks because the tires may have been manufactured incorrectly. This could result in a loss of vehicle handling and control. The recall also includes 2023 Bronco Sport SUVs.

Dealers will inspect and replace the tires, as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters for this recall were mailed April 5, 2024. 

GM Trucks: Front Wheel Hub Bolts Over-Tightened

General Motors is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup trucks. The front wheel hub bolts may have been over-tightened and damaged during installation. Damaged bolts may loosen or break, which can result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the left and right front wheel hub bolts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024.

Goodyear Tires: Incorrect Tire Identification Number

Goodyear is recalling certain G622 RSD, size 225/70R19.5 tires. The tires contain a tire identification number (TIN) that is missing the 4-digit week and year code mark. 

Missing TIN information can make it difficult for tire owners to identify the tire in the event of a recall, increasing the risk of driving with a recalled tire which could result in a crash.

Dealers will replace the tires, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 1, 2024. 

Mack Trucks: Missing Fuse from Methane Detector

Mack is recalling certain 2024-2025 LR natural gas trucks. The methane detector may be inoperative due to a missing fuse. An inoperative methane detector can fail to detect a gas leak, increasing the risk of a fire or injury.

Dealers will install a fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024. 

Paccar Trucks: Steering Gear Shaft May Fracture

Paccar is recalling certain vehicles due to the potential that the steering gear sector shaft may have been improperly heat-treated, which can cause the gear teeth to crack or fracture.

The recall includes the following 2025 Peterbilt and Kenworth models:

  • Peterbilt - 536, 548, 567, and 579
  • Kenworth - T280, T380, T480, T680, T880, and W990 

Dealers will inspect the serial numbers, and replace the steering gears as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed May 26, 2024.

Reading Trucks: Inadequate Clearance For Electrical Fuse Terminal

Reading Truck is recalling certain 2021-2024 dump body trucks. Inadequate clearance may allow the hood to contact the main electrical fuse terminal. Contact with the main fuse terminal can cause electrical arcing, increasing the risk of a fire.

Dealers will inspect and relocate fuse terminal and fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed March 29, 2024.
