The Evansville (Ind.) Police Department has doubled the fee officers must pay to use take-home vehicles due to tight budgets, Tristatehomepage.com reported. Beginning this year, officers with take-home vehicles will pay $20 per paycheck if they live in the city and $38 per paycheck if they live outside it.
The increased fee offsets the cost of gas, tires, and regular maintenance.
