FREDERICK, MD - In an effort to increase government efficiency and achieve budgetary savings, the Frederick Board of County Commissioners eliminated the Management Services Division, which oversaw the Fleet Management Department. Fleet will now function under the Division of Public Works, and no other changes to the Department are anticipated at this time, Tom Meunier, director of Public Works told GF. The change was effective Jan 31 at 4 p.m.

Fleet manager Pat Hannah will continue at his current position and will report to the Public Works Division.

Other departments and functions were reassigned to the County Manager's Office, Division of Finance, Division of Parks and Recreation, and Division of Public Works, a County release stated. The restructuring, which includes the departure of the Management Services Division's director, is anticipated to result in savings of more than $160,000.

"It's a streamlining and efficiency move," Robin Santagelo, public information officer, told GF. "There were no layoffs."

Hannah could not immediately be reached for comment.

In July, the board voted against a potential public-private partnership plan that would have outsourced a range of county services, including the Fleet Services Division.
