BEVERLY HILLS, CA - At a Jan. 19 meeting of the Municipal Equipment Maintenance Association (MEMA) at the historic Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, remarketing specialists discussed options for government agencies. Representatives from GovDeals, Public Surplus, Property Room, and Ken Porter Auctions presented on their companies' offerings for fleet managers. Ken Porter offers both online and live auctions, while the other companies offer online auctions.

In a Q&A panel after the presentations, the remarketing specialists discussed acting as a buffer between the seller and buyer, transportation cost, setting reserves and determining pricing on comparable items for sale, immediate "buy it now" options, and commissions for the buyer and seller.

In MEMA business, the association has a new website that includes features such as a calendar view of upcoming events and a training section with downloadable informational PDFs. The website (www.memasocal.org) will be live within a few weeks. John Frala, instructor at Rio Hondo College in Cerritos, Calif., was announced as the the new Educational Committee chairperson. The association is seeking committee members.

Board elections and voting took place, and all current board members were nominated and approved by members to continue at their positions. Board members are: Rick Longobart, president; Paul Condran, vice president; Jay Nossett, treasurer; Jannet Malig, secretary; and Craig Crowder, sergeant at arms.

The meeting included a catered lunch and concluded with a tour of Greystone Mansion. This meeting was one of the best attended events, with approximately 75 fleet professionals in attendance.
