JERSEY CITY, NJ – The National Safety Council has recognized New Jersey City University for its significant fleet safety improvement. The National Fleet Awards Program’s Significant Improvement Award acknowledges National Safety Council member organizations with fleets that have reduced their number of preventable collisions a minimum of 20 percent based on a comparison of previous year experience.

The National Safety Council calculates a collision rate using the following formula: collision rate = number of preventable collisions x 1,000,000 vehicle miles driven. New Jersey City University’s calendar year 2006 collision frequency rate was 44.22, compared to 95.44 in 2005, equaling a 54 percent reduction in preventable collisions
