WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Department of Energy will soon issue a final regulation providing alternative compliance options for state and fuel providers to meet their vehicle acquisition requirements under the Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPAct 1992), according to the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). The rule, Alternative Compliance for State and Fuel Provider Fleets, will allow covered fleet operators to apply for a waiver of the requirements of EPAct 1992 by demonstrating alternative (alternative compliance) means of reducing petroleum use. DOE officials have advised NAFA representatives that the final rule could be issued as early as this month.
