GREENVILLE, MS – Fourth Circuit Court District Attorney Joyce Chiles has confirmed that her office is reviewing the case of a former city department head charged with embezzling city funds, according to the Delta Democrat Times. The former fleet manager for the city of Greenville was arrested May 4 by the Greenville Police Department and charged with felony embezzlement. Greenville Assistant Police Chief Laverne Simpson said his arrest was the result of a month-long investigation. Mayor Heather McTeer Hudson said the fleet manager, who worked for the city for at least 13 years, was terminated from his position before the arrest. The mayor said the city received "information about possible mishandling of city property and funds." She said the city began looking into the matter, which involves an account established in 1992. Felony embezzlement involves any amount over $500.
