MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin Department of Administration said it is taking steps to make sure that state employees with poor driving records aren't operating state cars, according to the Associated Press. A policy directive detailing two new policies was sent to state government agencies by DOA Secretary Marc Marotta. Marotta said agencies must now record in a state database the reason that employees lose their driving privileges. Agencies must also investigate whether employees charged with drunk driving offenses were operating a state vehicle at the time of the offense, according to Marotta. A state audit found that 422 individuals who did not meet minimum driving standards were allowed to drive state vehicles. Included were 210 individuals with three moving violations or accidents in the past two years, 149 who lacked a Wisconsin driver's license, and 88 who had at least one alcohol-related offense in the past year.
