TUCSON, AZ – Ford Motor Co. is recalling more than 150,000 vehicles used by police departments and taxi companies due to reports of problems with insulation on the dashboard becoming overheated, according to the Tucson Citizen. The recall involved 2003-05 model year versions of the Crown Victorias. More than 130,000 of the vehicles are used in the United States. Assistant Chief John Leavitt told the Citizen that the recall affects 150 Tucson police cars. Leavitt cites that Tucson officers have not experienced the problem cited in the recall. Pima County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Mellen told the Citizen that deputies at his department also have not reported problems with the Crown Victorias. Kristen Kinley, Ford spokeswoman, said the insulation could sag near a high-temperature component in the engine and become overheated. She also said reports have not been confirmed, and the company has not been able to duplicate the conditions in tests.
