Indiana Governor Signs Bill to Promote Biofuel Use

April 6, 2005

INDIANAPOLIS – Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law a bill that requires state government to run its state vehicles on agriculture-based fuels such as biodiesel, ethanol, or gasohol whenever possible, according to the Indianapolis Star. Daniels believes the law would promote the use of "clean-burning, American-grown" fuels and help the agriculture sector as well. The president of the Soybean Board, Jim Schriver, said the new law would promote the growth of alternative fuel research, production, and distribution facilities in Indiana. Produced from soybeans, biodiesel is a cleaner-burning alternative fuel. Indiana has four of the nation's 12 fuel terminals with biodiesel-blending capabilities, 40 retailers that deliver fuel and 39 service stations with such fuels available at the pump.
