DULUTH, MN – A total of 59 vehicles costing $1,025,558.22 received approval for purchase by the St. Louis County Board as it re-organized for business in 2005, according to the Mesabi Daily News. The vehicles are for use by different county departments.

Vice Chairman Keith Nelson voiced concerns on buying many vehicles outside the county, 30, to be exact. A total of 29 will be purchased from county dealerships.

Commissioner Dennis Fink of Duluth questioned having larger inventories of county cars, in which he said some are up to 10 years old with relatively low miles. County Purchasing Director Dick Florey agreed with Fink’s point, noting that Minnesota Power had gotten rid of its motor pool and had an agreement with a car rental agency.
