Fleet Sales Rise 21% in January

Sales of vehicles from nine automakers to government fleets rose 21.8% in January compared to the same month a year ago on the strength of trucks, vans, and SUVs, according to data from Automotive Fleet magazine.

Government fleets purchased 14,436 vehicles during the month compared with 11,848 vehicles in January of 2013. Sales tilted heavily toward trucks, vans, and SUVs, as this segment accounted for nearly 83% of sales with 11,971 units. This category grew 32.5% from a year ago.

Sales of passenger cars, on the other hand, fell 12.3% to 2,465 vehicles from the 2,811 sold a year ago.
