Greg Morris, CEM, fleet manager, Sarasota County, Fla., will retire on Nov. 11 after 11 years at the county, he has announced.
The county is recruiting for his replacement, and the position can be found here. Morris said the agency expects a two-month overlap in order to create a smooth transition.
Morris started his career as an equipment maintenance technician for the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1999 and transitioning to municipal fleet management.
At Sarasota County, he oversees the management of 1,600 vehicles and equipment and a budget of about $19 million per year. During his time there, the fleet made progress on improving working conditions and increasing sustainability as well as improving support for natural disasters and major events. Morris said his major career highlights at the county include being recognized by the Association of Equipment Management Professionals (AEMP) with a Fleet Master award, three technicians receiving an AEMP Technician of the Year award, and recognition among the Leading Fleets, among other accolades.
"I am very proud of the accomplishments made all during my career but I give all the credit to the fantastic team of individuals working with me," Morris said. "I was the person at the front of the boat pointing the direction we should be traveling, but they did all the rowing."
