Connecticut Awards Funds to Municipalities to Buy Alt-Fuel Vehicles and Fueling Stations

August 29, 2012

HARTFORD, CT – Connecticut’s Governor Dannel Malloy announced that nine municipalities in the state will receive funds from a $20 million federal transportation grant. Two of those projects are for the purchase of alternative-fuel vehicles and fueling infrastructure.

The City of Norwich is receiving $2.08 million for the Regional Alternate Fuel Infrastructure and Clean Vehicle Project to build two compressed natural gas fueling stations and to purchase alternative fuel vehicles. The City of Plymouth is receiving $86,524 to replace five fleet vehicles with hybrid electric vehicles.

At this point, the Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) will begin working with the municipalities on final designs for their projects so they are ready to begin when the DOT’s Bureau of Policy and Planning releases the funds in 2013.

The State received the grant under the Federal Highway Administration’s Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program.
