Pittsburg State University Adds Hybrids to Motor Pool Fleet

March 26, 2012

PITTSBURG, KS – Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., has added two 2012-MY Ford Fusion hybrids to the fleet. The university’s vehicle maintenance supervisor Kurt Kasjaka said the vehicles will help reduce the fleet’s carbon footprint and save fuel.

Even with gas prices on the rise, Kasjaka said the goal was to focus on reducing the vehicles’ carbon footprint and not as much on fuel savings. The difference in price between a conventional sedan and a hybrid model still won’t be made up via reduced fuel costs.

Kasjaka also said the hybrid vehicles give him and Kenny Edwards, Kasjaka’s assistant, the opportunity to learn more about hybrid technology.
