Jotto Desk, a manufacturer of law enforcement vehicle equipment, recently announced that it has been issued a utility patent for its Defend IR Security System.

The Jotto Desk Defend IR is the first infrared security system designed for patrol vehicles, as reported by Police Magazine in 2021. When armed, the Defend IR monitors the interior of your cabin. If movement is sensed, the Defend IR utilizes the lights and sirens of the patrol vehicle, alerting everyone around a break-in has occurred.

The Defend IR utilizes the intelligent light/siren controller already in most vehicles and Jotto Desk's PIR sensor to cloak the interior of the vehicle with a protective eye.

The Defend IR has been patent pending for several years. During that time, Jotto Desk was outfitting city, county, and state agencies with the product to protect law enforcement officers' weapons.

“Over the years, we have worked closely with our law enforcement, fleet management, and distribution partners to best understand the current weaknesses and their future needs in regard to weapon security” Jotto Desk SVP of Sales & Marketing Curt Hatton said. “Once we realized most police vehicles do not come with a car alarm and even then, aftermarket alarms are generally ignored, we began the process of designing a solution for the issue of someone breaking into a patrol vehicle and having all the time in the world to steal the rifle."

If an unauthorized individual (someone without the vehicle key) enters the passenger compartment, they have 10 seconds until the Defend IR wakes up the controller and turns on the lights and siren.
