AUSTIN, TEXAS - The top 20 fleets for this year's 2010 100 Best Fleets were announced June 21 at the Government Fleet Expo + Conference (GFX) in Austin, Texas. The City of Troy earned the No. 1 spot on the list, with Sam Lamerato, fleet maintenance superintendent, accepting the award on behalf of his fleet during an awards presentation following the opening keynote address on the first day of the conference.

Lamerato, a 36-year industry veteran, oversees more than 500 pieces of equipment for the City of Troy. He recently received the APWA's 2010 Professional Manager of the Year - Public Fleet Award.

Sponsored by INVERS and the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA), award certificates were presented to all fleet managers in attendance at the conference.

Rudy Six, INVERS, and Greg Haglin, NJPA, announced the following fleets as the top 20 for 2010:

1. City of Troy, Mich.

2. City of Portland, Ore.

3. Polk County, Fla.

4. City of Oxnard, Calif.

5. City and County of Denver, Colo.

6. City of Fayetteville, Ark.

7. City of Culver City, Calif.

8. City of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

9. Manatee County, Fla.

10. City of Moline, Ill.

11. City of San Diego, Calif.

12. San Bernardino County, Calif.

13. Sarasota County, Fla.

14. Las Vegas (Nev.) Valley Water District.

15. City of Ft. Worth, Texas.

16. City of Columbus, Ohio.

17. Virginia Department of Transportation.

18. City of Concord, N.C.

19. City of Fresno, Calif.

20. Palm Beach County, Fla.

More than 150 fleets across the country submitted nominations for a spot on the prestigious 100 Best Fleets listing for 2010, but only 100 could be chosen.
