XL Hybrids has gained approval from the California Air Resources Board to sell a modified hybrid version of Ford's Transit cargo van to fleets in that state. The XL Hybrids Transit has also gained eligibility for a $2,500 state voucher to defray the cost to fleet purchasers.
The City of Seattle has achieved a 23% increase in miles driven per gallon and a 19% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions in its hybrid ambulance vehicles.
Fleets who deploy XL Hybrids vans for delivery or service uses in California can now defray the cost of the conversion with a $2,500 voucher, the company has announced.
Both the City of Boston, Mass., and Montgomery County, Md., have commissioned additional XL Hybrid conversions to supplement the existing XL Hybrids in their fleets. Boston will have an additional 16 hybrid vans, while Montgomery County will have 10.
Montgomery County, Md., is already seeing more than 25% MPG increase on 10 vans with hybrid electric powertrains.
