A Mercury Associates report estimated the Clark County (Wash.) fleet had an excess of 20 vehicles, The Columbian reported. Eliminating the extra vehicles would save $187,000 the first year, and $777,000 through 2021.

15 of the 20 vehicles proposed for eliminationwill come from the Public Works Department. The other five will come from various county agencies. The report also identified 10 vehicles the county may consider eliminating, which could save the county more than a million dollars.

Prior to the study, Clark County reduced its fleet from 800 to 758 vehicles. The consulting group did not look at patrol cars, street sweepers, and other vehicles of necessity.
