Government Fleet magazine named Richard Battersby, CAFM, CPFP, director, Fleet Services, University of California, Davis, the 2013 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year. Battersby accepted his award at the Government Fleet Expo & Conference (GFX) on Wednesday, June 12.

Battersby said, "Most days I don't feel like the fleet manager of the year, because sometimes, I don't feel like I have enough time in the day to get everything done." He continued to thank his colleagues for their efforts and teamwork and encouraged the audience to help their peers when they can.

Battersby's accomplishments include achieving a three-year goal to stabilize the fleet department's operations, introducing efficiency improvements, and correcting an operating deficit of $800,000 annually.

The finalists are Paul Condran, equipment maintenance/fleet manager, City of Culver City, Calif., and William Griffiths, fleet management division chief, Montgomery County, Md.
