HACKENSACK, NJ – Bergen County is using GPS in 100 of its fleet vehicles and is considering adding GPS to 100 more, according to an article on Northjersey.com.

According to County records, the cost of the system is $564 per vehicle per month for the first year and includes software, installation, and the $22 per month per-vehicle fee. If the County renews the contract for another year, it will cost $264 per vehicle per month.

The company is contracting with SkyGuard LLC. The system can also alert County dispatchers if a vehicle is in an accident, and can monitor idling and acceleration.

This system is part of an overall effort to reduce fleet costs over the next two years.
