New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio released his preliminary budget for fiscal-year 2018, which included adding bulletproof windows to all patrol cars. The budget, released Jan. 24 and totaling $84.7 billion, provides $5.2 million in FY-17 and $5.2 million in FY-18 to install bulletproof window inserts in every New York Police Department patrol car to keep officers safe.

The proposal states that all inserts would be installed within a year.

New York City’s fiscal year begins July 1. The proposal must be approved by City Council.
