DENVER – Colorado Governor John Hicklenlooper announced new support for municipalities in the state that want to add natural gas vehicles to their fleets. His office also announced support for building natural gas fueling infrastructure.

The Colorado Governor’s Energy Office (GEO) plans to work with the Colorado Municipal League to get multiple municipalities to participate in a multi-state memorandum of understanding and to help them add natural gas vehicles to their fleets. The Colorado GEO will develop a “purchasing mechanism” for municipalities and plans to work with the natural gas industry, fuel retailers, and local governments to encourage development of natural gas fueling infrastructure.

This announcement comes on the heels of an announcement by the governors of 12 states, including John Hicklenlooper, that they sent a letter to automakers, urging them to manufacturer more vehicles that run on natural gas.

Two states, Colorado and Oklahoma, initiated the multi-state agreement, according to Hicklenlooper’s office. Other states that signed the letter include Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, New Mexico, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
