NEWARK, DE – The City of Newark, Del.’s city council approved the purchase of 12 hybrids for the City’s fleet. The City used money from the 2012 Capital Program Equipment Replacement fund and $25,500 from a Delaware greenhouse gas grant for the purchase.

The hybrid purchase, from State-contracted vendors, cost a total of $372,511. Newark’s Interim City Manager Carol Houck said she is planning to look into extended service contracts for the hybrids given the costs associated with vehicle maintenance post-warranty.
