FORT MYERS, FL - Lee County, Fla., fleet staff will be placing bicycle safety stickers on County vehicles and equipment as part of a community effort to promote motorist awareness of bicycles on the roadways. The bright yellow stickers visually promote a safe distance between motorists and cyclists (3 feet) and hopefully will help reduce future accidents involving bicycles, according to the County's fleet newsletter.

According to Marilyn Rawlings, CEM, fleet manager for the County, fleet staff is putting them on vehicles and equipment as they come in for service, and the transit department is putting them on all buses. "We estimate (the first round) to include about 400-500 vehicles. Eventually all will have the stickers except for ambulances," she stated.

Normally, no bumper stickers are allowed on County equipment unless they are for County programs, she said.
