JOHNSON CITY, NY – BAE Systems and Crane Carrier Company have formed an agreement to integrate a heavy-duty hybrid electric propulsion system into one of Crane’s vehicles. The companies said they will conduct field trials with this vehicle this year, and that Crane plans to offer vehicles that use this technology in North America by the end of 2012. The companies said this partnership will bring the BAE’s HybriDrive parallel system to the North American refuse collection vehicle market. BAE said this system will improve fuel economy, reduce emissions, and reduce noise.

BAE said this is part of its broader strategy to address a range of heavy-duty truck applications, including ones used in construction, pick-up and delivery, and utility. BAE’s HybriDrive system is currently deployed in more than 3,500 transit buses in North America and Europe.
