HEMET, CA – The City of Hemet, Calif. has decided to outsource refuse collection services after considering a plan by consulting company R3 Consulting Group. According to the Press-Enterprise and the Valley Chronicle, R3’s plan could save the city $47 million over a period of 10 years, but would result in higher rates in the near future for city customers.

According to both papers, the consulting company found that the city’s vehicles are aging and do not meet future emissions requirements. In addition, low monthly refuse collection rates ($15 per month for a 64-gallon cart) have kept available revenue low. The City Council voted to go ahead with finding an outside provider and drafted a request for proposals.
