McKINNEY, TEXAS  - The City of McKinney will receive rebates from TXU Energy to install four electric vehicle charging stations and convert several city vehicles to electric hybrid vehicles under the TXU Energy EV Accelerator Program, according to a release from TXU.

The City's charging stations are slated to be fully operational in the first quarter of 2011. The City is also working to convert three existing City vehicles, Toyota Prius hybrids, into plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Rebates totaling $150,000 are being provided to the City of McKinney to support EVs and other energy-efficiency improvements as part of the TXU Energy's broader Energy Efficiency Rebate Program. These rebates are included in a four-year contract the City recently signed with the company for electricity service. Of the overall contract, 10 percent is supplied by renewable sources, according to TXU Energy.
