EBENSBURG, PA - Cambria County commissioners approved an agreement to equip County vehicles with GPS monitoring systems in an effort to produce efficiencies and increae safety, according to the Tribune-Democrat.

Verizon Wireless will provide GPS fleet management services for an initial 75 county vehicles with the possibility of later additions.

The GPS system will replace a log book system that was not often reviewed, according to commissioners. The GPS system will allow for vehicle tracking, and commissioners hope that it will lead to savings in fuel costs and improved productivity.

Commissioners said cars used by employees in the various county agencies, the sheriff's department, the conservation district, and emergency management will have the GPS units, the newspaper reported.
