SACRAMENTO, CA - Recently proposed California legislation from the 2009-2010 Fourth Extraordinary Session rescinds all funding of fuel for take-home vehicles without differentiating between take-home use and official business use.

In its current form, Assembly Bill (ABX4 34) introduced by Assembly Member Kevin Jeffries July 16 says no state funds will provided for any state vehicles taken home by employees:

"The funding of fuel for a state-owned motor vehicle that is used by an employee for personal take-home use shall be rescinded for all employees and agents of state departments, divisions, and agencies."

Under the bill, exceptions may only be granted to employees on-call to directly respond from home to provide immediate emergency or urgent services or those whose "assigned vehicle would otherwise be left in an open unsecured location after hours and therefore be subjected to vandalism or theft."
