NORTHAMPTON, MA – Northampton’s public works vehicles are now running on B-20 biodiesel fuel, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette. The city switched from diesel to B-20 in September.

The fuel does cost slightly more, but the benefits far outweigh the extra cost, according to Ned Huntley, the city’s public works director. He said biodiesel cuts down on particulate matter in emissions and reduces dependence on foreign oil. Also, the switch does not require any modification to the department’s equipment.
