SPRINGFIELD, IL – Illinois state government would be required to buy flexible-fuel vehicles that use ethanol and other alternative fuels under a bill approved by the Illinois House Feb. 1, according to the Web site www.mywebtimes.com/.
Alternative fuels burn cleaner, reduce dependence on foreign oil and expand markets for Illinois corn and soybean farmers, said sponsor Rep. Mike Boland, D-East Moline.
Rep. Mike Boland’s (D-East Moline) bill, which passed 113-0 and is now headed to the Senate, would require the state to purchase new cars or light trucks that are fuel-efficient hybrids or E-85 or biodiesel compatible. According to the report, squad cars would be exempted from the legisla-tion if the agency decided it needed different vehicles.
