GWINNETT COUNTY, GA – A three-month review of the Gwinnett County, Ga., fleet management operations found that its cars were outdated, there were too many managers, and the county was too slow to get vehicles into the shop for oil changes, according to The Atlanta Journal Constitution. The Gwinnett County fleet of more than 2,300 vehicles, including executive sedans and fire engines, is worth roughly $71 million. Additional findings of the review included the need for the county to cut down on the number of accidents; reduce the number of cars, mechanics, and supervisors/managers; and replace vehicles sooner, even though the county had $20 million set aside to purchase new vehicles. However, according to the report, the findings gave Gwinnett’s fleet division a “solid B” when compared with other government fleet operations that have been evaluated.
