SACRAMENTO, CA – California's compressed natural gas bus fleet is expanding following the delivery of 103 buses to San Diego transit providers and 30 to Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro). According to NGV Global, the San Diego deliveries make the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) both majority CNG fleets. LA Metro is already a majority CNG fleet with more than 2,000 CNG buses and targets to be 100-percent CNG driven by the end of 2006. Air regulators and the transit agencies see the growing presence of natural gas-fueled buses as critical to meeting air quality standards, particularly in non-attainment areas.
