EUGENE, OR – According to the Register-Guard, 12 Toyota Prius gasoline-electric hybrids were delivered to the city of Eugene, Ore. The vehicles cost the city more than $255,000, but the government tax credits are expected to take off 25 percent from the cost, according to city fleet officials. The city now has 28 hybrids. With the new Priuses, the city's passenger fleet is 34 percent hybrid. Keith Nicolson, fleet and radio communication technical supervisor, said that operating expenses have dropped 38 percent since the purchase of the hybrids.
