LOS ALTOS, CA – The city council for Los Altos, Calif., has approved the purchase of a Honda Civic Hybrid, according to the San Jose Mercury News. It will be the first hybrid in the city fleet, said Phil Rose, city manager. The city received a grant of $2,000 from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to help offset the cost of the hybrid car. Los Altos Hills received a similar grant and will replace its town car with a hybrid Ford Escape SUV. Other Peninsula cities are adding hybrids to their fleets, including Palo Alto and Mountain View. Both cities have a Toyota Prius in their fleets.
