The Charleston Fire Department in West Virginia is adding two Pierce Arrow XT pumpers to its fleet. The pumpers were purchased through a partnership established with the West Virginia Purchasing Division using a National Association of State Procurement Officials (NASPO) cooperative contract.

The two new Arrow XT pumpers will replace the Charleston Fire Department’s nearly 20-year-old pumper trucks. Key features of the new trucks include a length just over 28 feet 10 inches, 45-degree cramp angle, TAK-4 independent front suspension, Pierce Husky 12 foam system, and Allison 4500 6-speed transmission.

The NASPO contract allows the City of Charleston to benefit from competitive fire truck pricing bid at the national level and contract directly with Pierce without having to seek additional competitive bids at the local level. This opportunity was made available through the West Virginia Purchasing Division’s continued efforts to work with counties and municipalities to provide cost-savings where possible.
