The City of Pierre, South Dakota has passed a ban on vaping in city buildings, fleet vehicles, and enclosed equipment. This was driven by employee demand, as city employees became more concerned about the negative health effects of being around colleagues vaping, reports the Capital Journal.
The city already had a ban on smoking tobacco products, but the policy has been revised to specifically include vaping. In addition, vaping will be treated like smoking cigarettes, in that employees and their dependents who vape will be subject to the same increased health costs as those who smoke cigarettes.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that, as of October 22, there have been 34 confirmed deaths in 24 states related to e-cigarette use (commonly known as vaping).
