The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office in Florida broke ground on a new support services facility.

The 42,650-sq.-ft. building will include maintenance bays for working on vehicles, as well as enough space to keep all 500 fleet vehicles safe indoors during a hurricane, reports WTSP.

The new facility will be able to withstand 160-mph winds, keeping vehicles safe.

Sheriff Tom Knight told WTSP that the current facility is 20 years antiquated. When hurricanes come, vehicles are stored wherever there is space — including in the middle of orange groves. The facility is expected to be completed next year.
